Is Connectivity Completely Overrated?

The price of always being available though high tech gadgetry - is it something we are willing to pay? Always being connected and constantly sharing through technological platforms has become part of our every day life's. Is it a necessity or completely overrated? I am not asking everyone to stop using their mobile phones and go back to being a cave man, but when I walk down the street, I notice how mobile phones have become so incredibly important for a lot of people, myself included.

We are constantly checking, glancing at, touching, even caressing our mobile phones, always in a high state of alert in case someone will ring or send a text message or email.
Why has this become so important to us? I believe this instant connectivity plays such an important role in business and many other activities, but I worry that we are putting this connectivity on a pedestal and becoming creatures whose attention is not focused on the happenings around us, but on the world that mobile phones create.

When people are in a socially awkward moment, waiting for a friend outside a restaurant, standing at the bar waiting for a pint, alone at a break during an event, when they don't know what to say to the anonymous person seated a row away, or how best to say it, the easiest cop out is to look at their phones and check for any possible missed call or message.

I just think this is fascinating human behaviour that we have developed over the last decade. People didn't have mobile phones a mere 10 years ago, and already behaviour has changed radically. Check out this video called antisocial phone tricks. It's great!!
